DISCOVER THE SADO RIVER TO ALCÁCER DO SAL
Almost the entire river route between Setúbal and Alcácer do Sal unfolds right within the heart of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, one of the most spectacular protected areas in our country, not only for its characteristic natural and relatively untouched landscape, but also for its rich heritage, including natural features, as well as historical, archaeological, cultural, and economic heritage, etc.
Highlights of this route include passing by the Roman Ruins of Tróia, the Carrasqueira Canal, Ilha do Cavalo (Herdade do Pinheiro), the Abul stilt pier with an explanation of the Phoenician trading post that existed there (unable to visit), passing by salt pans and rice paddies, and the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, one of the best places for birdwatching, so we will provide binoculars for this purpose, which will be accompanied by a guide.
The entire tour will be accompanied by a guide who will explain the most relevant aspects of the trip and describe the different points of interest mentioned, and will elaborate on themes such as those related to traditional boats, salt, human occupation, natural heritage, birds, etc.
